As the core part in rotary drilling, kelly bar has some consumable parts.
1)Key strip:
- Transmitting torque and pressure: Key bars are important transmission components in the drill pipe system. They can transmit torque and pressure from the drilling rig, allowing the drill pipe to rotate and exert sufficient pressure for drilling operations.
- Positioning and guidance: The key bar also plays the role of positioning and guidance, ensuring that the drill pipe can maintain the correct position and direction during the drilling process and avoid deflection or misalignment.
- Wear-resistant and durable: The key strips of drill pipes are usually made of wear-resistant materials, which can withstand friction and wear during the drilling process and maintain long-term stability and reliability.
2)Spring:
- Shock absorption: The spring can suppress and reduce the shock and vibration generated by the drill bit during the rope torsion process. Through the buffering effect of the spring, the stability of drilling can be improved and the occurrence of faults can be reduced.
3)Spring seat
- Buffering effect: Through its elastic deformation, the spring seat can absorb the impact force during mechanical processing and play a buffering effect. This buffering effect helps reduce the impact and vibration of the drill pipe and drill bit during drilling, thereby improving the stability of the work and protecting the drill pipe and drill bit from damage.
Drilling tools:
There are 3 main consumable parts in drilling tools.
1)Wear-resistant blocks
- Wear-resistant protection: Wear-resistant blocks are components of rotary drilling tools that are in direct contact with the formation. They bear the wear and tear during drilling. Wear-resistant blocks are usually made of highly wear-resistant materials, which can effectively resist the wear of the drilling tool by the formation, thus extending the service life of the drilling tool.
- Reduce costs: The use of wear-resistant blocks can reduce the wear and damage of drilling tools, thereby reducing the frequency and cost of replacing drilling tools. In addition, the long service life of the wear blocks reduces maintenance costs during drilling operations.
2)Drill teeth
- Cutting and breaking the formation: The drill teeth are the parts of the rotary drilling tool that are in direct contact with the working object (the formation). They cut and break the formation by rotating at high speed and exerting pressure. Whether it is soil, pebbles or rock formations, the drill teeth can effectively carry out drilling operations.
- Guidance and positioning: The drill teeth can also play a guiding and positioning role during the drilling process. They ensure that the drilling tool drills along the predetermined path and direction to avoid deflection or misalignment. This is crucial for achieving precise drilling operations.
- Improve drilling efficiency: The design and material selection of drill teeth directly affect drilling efficiency. Good drill teeth should have the characteristics of no cracks, continuous breaking, wear resistance, and easy disassembly and assembly to ensure stable performance during the drilling process and improve drilling efficiency.
- Adapt to different strata: According to different stratigraphic conditions and drilling needs, drill teeth can be of different types and specifications. For example, bucket teeth are suitable for soil drilling, with sharp tooth edges and fast cutting speed; while pick teeth are suitable for rock crushing, and the wear-resistant alloy points provide greater pressure on the rocks. This enables rotary drilling tools to adapt to various complex formation conditions and ensure the smooth progress of drilling operations.
3)Gear seats
- Fixing and supporting drill teeth: The gear seat is the fixing and supporting structure of the drill teeth. It can ensure that the drill teeth maintain a stable position and direction when rotating at high speed and applying pressure, and prevent the drill teeth from loosening or falling off.
- Extend the life of the drill teeth: The tooth seat can also extend the service life of the drill teeth if the arrangement is reasonable.
Segmented casing:
As we know, segmented casing is a important parts for rotary drilling in sensitive area. Then what accessories should be used with casing tube together to get a completed set?
1)Casing drive
- Driving casing follow-up: During pile hole construction, the casing driver rotates the steel casing, and at the same time cooperates with the pressurized cylinder to press it into the soil section by section. During this process, the casing driver provides the necessary power to ensure that the casing can enter the formation smoothly.
- Casing extraction: When the casing needs to be extracted, the casing driver also plays a key role. It can pull out the casing from the formation through a specific mechanism to realize the recovery and reuse of the casing.

4)Casing boots&Casing boots teeth
- Cutting and guiding: The casing shoe teeth first come into contact with the formation when the casing is lowered into the wellbore. They are designed to be hard and sharp enough to be able to cut and break hard materials on the bottom of the well, such as rocks, pebbles, etc., to provide a smooth channel for the casing to be lowered. At the same time, they also play a guiding role to ensure that the casing can be lowered into the well along the predetermined path.
